WELCOME to your senior year of English

     I am pleased to spend your last year of high school literature and composition with you

and to assist in  your transition to college.  During the year, we will be writing (your number

1 activity), reviewing commas and other conventions of writing, completing a college portfolio, reading novels, reviewing MLA & APA style referencing and bibliographies, speaking formally, reviewing vocabulary, discussing fiction and non-fiction, creating projects, practicing  note taking and study skills, participating in Socratic Discussion, and more while preparing for college writing assignments in all of your future curriculum.  All this, while you complete ALL of your assignments and maintain at least a B average.

    2. Purchase an unabridged version and read Heart of Darkness.      UNDER CONSTRUCTION

    3.  Read, highlight introductory information in novel.

    4.  Write Journal entries under the categories for each chapter:

  • Characters-  List with descriptions first 3 chapters, then just list developments/changes in characters
  •  Plot /Major Actions- List and describe first 3 chapters, then describe the consequences of the actions of the major characters for the rest of the book.
  • Themes - Formulate 3 theme statements and support each with at least 4 textual references.  Be prepared to write an in-class essay illustrating the ligitimacy of your theme statements.
