Read this Course Information:
This course is designed for the student who enjoys an academic challenge in reading, writing, thinking and discussing. Although the focus of your study is on literature and composition, we
also emphasize speaking and presenting skills, study skills, research and MLA writing format, punctuation and grammar, and Greek and Latin Derivations. In addition to creative
and analytical thinking and writing, you will be asked to design individual and group projects.
The curriculum is a genre study approach, examining elements of poetry, prose and drama.
You will read and study great works of literature and be introduced to new methods of analysis
as well as Higher Order Thinking skills and Whole Brain Learning. We aim to fire up those brain
cells and grow a plethora of dendrite connections this year!!

Be prepared to do a great deal of writing, more analytical than creative, but composition assignment requirements will be structured in such a way that both the creative and analytical skills will be further developed. We will be using the 6 Traits of assessment to fine tune your talents. Grammar and sentence structure will be included to address fluency and style issues. Your ACT/SAT vocabulary development will be approached through Greek and Latin prefixes, roots, and suffixes. Many assignments are longer term (not like daily homework), so again, time management skills are important.
Our goal for our students is to brighten your days with a foundation of knowledge that will
support you throughout high school and help prepare you for the option of taking Advanced Placement English your senior year as well as prepare you to excel in the college of your choice. We also hope to guide your appreciation for great literature and your fondness for writing.
Finally, we will endeavor to plunge you into a fun, stimulating and challenging experience!
